How do you find the words to describe a band that uses such unique colors to create their musical paintings? With Crush Luther, it’s not easy.

Formed in Toronto in 2002 and consisting of Luther Mallory (vocals/guitar), Matt Leitch (guitars/keys), Ryan Snyder (bass/vocals) and PJ Herrick (drums), Crush Luther are that band….incredibly difficult to describe musically. A bit of Rickie Lee Jones here, a dash of Lyle Lovett there and a pinch of slick pop sensibility comprises the musical landscape that is Crush Luther.

The group have very quickly made a name for themselves in the world music scene. Releasing their self titled debut in February of 2007 on High 4 Records, Crush Luther experienced success quicker then most bands do. Their first single City Girl quickly shot to the number one spot on the MuchMoreMusic countdown. Their second single, The Cools, enjoyed heavy rotation on MuchMusic plus a number two spot on MuchTop10s. Crush Luther did multiple nation-wide tours in support of the release and appeared on several national TV shows including ET Canada, Breakfast TV, YTV’s The Zone and Canada AM. But after the success of their debut album, the band hit a rough patch – three members left, leaving only Luther Mallory and Matt Leitch. Mallory says, “It seemed impossible to continue. More than half the band had quit. But, Matt and I have played in bands together since we were 16 years old so what else were we really going to do? It was either find a way to rebuild, or become those people who live normal, respectable lives. The choice was obvious.”

With a fresh line up and a renewed sense of determination, the guys of Crush Luther have recorded another full length CD, (to be released in the fall of (2009), and will no doubt build on the success of their self-titled debut. 2009 looks to be another great year for Crush Luther.

Since forming in the fall of 2003 in their native North York, the three-piece has steadily evolved according to a musical vision that is mature, modern, and mischievously melodic. From 2004’s brilliant debut The Constant Lover, through 2006’s Dancing With Daggers, to this year’s revelatory Gambling With God, these three young women have always displayed a poise and intuition that defies their age. Theirs is a band that strives for authenticity in an industry that is consistently contrived. Self-assured without being too self-aware, they are an antidote to the trashy tarts who pollute the airwaves with oversexed, under-talented forays into mediocrity.

Accolades and attention soon followed. Gigs sold out. Magneta Lane was soon signed to Paper Bag Records and hit the road. In the ensuing years they’ve toured Canada, the U.S., the U.K., and Japan, sharing the stage with Sloan, K-os, Controller Controller, The Silversun Pickups, The Stills, Neverending White Lights and Stellastar amongst many other established names. Along with videos in rotation on MTV Canada and MuchMusic.

After the wide acclaim garnered by The Constant Lover, it was the band’s mix of steely determination and self-deprecation that proved an intoxicating mix for a Pop Matters critic, who referred to Lexi’s “tender toughness,” in his review of Dancing With Daggers: “A great deal of Magneta Lane’s impact is down to the musical charisma of their lead singer, Lexi Valentine. She takes Chrissie Hynde’s sweetly sour alto and wraps it around Debbie Harry’s blase romanticism for an emotionally potent vocal style that conveys the same tender toughness as those two peerless women who came a generation before.

The girls have also worked very closely with Microsoft in the US. Developing 2 internal commercials over the last year and are currently working on a potential online reality show as well as a few other Microsoft promotion initiatives which will only improve the bands already high profile. They have already played Microsofts Christmas party and were part of the Mobile Media Conference held in Barcelona Spain in Feb. 2009.

“And now driven, passionate and focused as ever, Magneta Lane is preparing for the release of their third album, Gambling With God, recorded & produced by Jon Drew (Tokyo Police Club, The Arkells)”.

“It’s about finding out exactly where you want to go and getting there without stopping for anything — but taking those things that matter along the way,” Lexi says, describing the new record. “It’s also about power, strength and heart. And being honest with yourself. The sound is hopeful, bright, and at peace with life’s twists and turns.”Fall From Grace is a hard rock phoenix rising from the ashes of adversity. Each of the four band members are a walking testament to the saying “that which does not kill you, makes you stronger.” Creating music for the masses, each song is a story of struggle and triumph.

Understandably, they were named “the band that will not die” during the televised finals of the Fuse TV $1 Million Battle Of The Bands. Fall From Grace outperformed over 7,000 bands nationwide on the internet, television, and national stages. The band took the Seattle champion title which lead to them appearing as one of 17 chosen continental finalists to contend for a $1 Million record contract. As these bands competed against each other week after week on the Fuse TV series, Fall From Grace proved time and time again that their true hard rock spirit and endurance would reign supreme. With each challenge put before them the band gained the reverence of the celebrity judges (Johnny Rotten, Bif Naked and Billy Duffy), the respect of fellow competing bands and the love of the viewing audiences everywhere.

Their cult following continues to grow as the band tours non-stop. Fall From Grace has been playing alongside heavy-hitters coast to coast, including stints on touring festivals like Vans Warped Tour. Now that Fall From Grace is part of the Bunk Rock Entertainment roster they are ready to take their message to a whole new level with the release of their 2nd full length album Sifting Through the Wreckage, available in stores and online nationwide.

Cauterize were a pop-punk band hailing from the GM town of Oshawa, Ontario. Originally a three piece which formed at the beginning of their high school years, Jesse, Bone and Worobec stole Slater away from another band and years later added Chuck Coles to complete the line up.

“We try to put a lot of energy into the live show because if people come out and all we do is stand there they might as well have just stayed home and listened to the CD. Also, it may be the first time they’ve seen or heard of us. We see it as an opportunity to gain new fans.” says singer Jesse Smith

The sound of the band comes from everyone bringing their different influences to the table and having an equal say. They’re what all the pop-punk bands want to be doing right now—writing good melodic songs that don’t have to strive to be heard.
